HEY R.G.S. THE PROPERTY WAS ONCE UP FOR SALE ITS ON THE HIGH GROUND OF THE GAUDALUPE RIVER ..
THE DEVELOPERS WOULD NOT PAY THE ASKING PRICE ONE DAY THE OWNER DUG SOME DIRT FROM HIS BACK YARD TO FILL HOLES IN HIS LAWN AFTER A RAIN HE DISCOVERED NUMEROUS POINTS ... HE CONTACTED ARCHEOLOGIST FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS ..
HE TOOK THE PROPERTY OFF THE MARKET AFTER THE DISCOVERY WAS MADE NOT ONLY WAS IT A INDIAN ENCAMPMENT OCCUPIED SINCE THE PALEO INDIANS ...BUT ALSO A PLANTATION ALSO WITH NUMEROUS SLAVE QUARTERS ON THE SITE ARTIFACTS FROM THE INDIAN AND SLAVES WERE FOUND THERE
I DUG WITH SUE TURNER ALONG WITH OTHERS FROM TARL AND THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS BUT ALSO SOME LOCAL RESIDENTS CAME TO DIG AND DISCOVER
I CAN SAY THERE IS ALOT OF BASES THAT HAVE TO BE COVERED WHEN YOU DO A ARCHEOLOGICAL DIG ...
That's what i thought it might be. Would love to see some pics from the dig or open house. What a treasure trove!
Sorry for the slo reply, I was out of town.
There must be somebody in authority you could call just to ask to stop by. With a formal open house just finished I wouldn't think there would be another soon. AS you see, Lee actually worked with the prin****ls, maybe he's got a visitors pass to spare.
Lee: Just FYI and a point of clarification. I believe all of the folks who are digging at McKee
are members of the Southern Texas Archaeological Association, and include folks who work at the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio. I do not know of any TARL or UT-
Austin staff/studet involvement.
