Job one, go crashing through the underbrush looking for a likely test hole area.
Job two, get down & dirty with all the help you can find.
Insitu of shoe & swiss army knife [ see posting named " LEE " for details ]
Randy was digging about 200 feet from us. His Dad Barry was out surface hunting.
Looks like a WELLS with a damaged base.
Worked piece of flint to right of pecker pick> > > > >
Badger off camera to the side doing the " in situ dance ! "
When the diggins slow and tough, savoring a mysterious insitu is a welcome delight !
DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS has a whole new meaning now.
Bit more soil tickled away, its got some red color showing.
A barb now uncovered. . . . . time to rip it out of the ground. . . . . .
And HEEEeeeers Froggy for scale
THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE
Here we are out in the middle of NOWHERE, in the bottom of a hole and the word leaked out that we had found a good undug layer. . . . There were some people from the next county over. Looked like a digfest pic. .
EVEN THE DAM DOG CAME DOWN TO SEE THE ACTION..
Badger finally became exhausted [ from talking ] and turned her area over to BFBill. . . .
A few deft wiggles later he found a 3 1/2 inch CASTROVILLE.
Sheryll was in the right place at the right time and Bill donated the point to her. With all the partying going on I didnt get a close up of the flint.
Here's the days finds, less 3 brokes I forgot to take out of my pocket. . . . It IS deer season, Badger found the teeth, I got a piece of antler [a one and a half pointer ]
With so many people milling around valuable finds its wise to be alert to sticky tongues.
What better way to finish a tough day than with a tummy rub .
ANOTHER "ohmygosh" moment. . . . I just got around to washing that piece of antler found Sunday [ in
the last pics above ] It's got an elongated hole bored through.
It was no surprise to find the antler as we had been finding bone pieces all day around the fire pit.
Question is; was the guy preparing a piece of the deer feast for a new knife handle. . . OR
was it already a knife that he used to cut up the deer and now there is a beautiful long blade farther in fron where the horn was found ??
AWESOME FIND MICHELLE .... A RARITY INDEED GLAD YA'LL DID SO WELL .. I WAS THINKING MAYBE A ATLATL HANDLE BUT NOW I TEND TO LEAN MORE TOWARDS A KNIFE HANDLE ALSO !!!
