12/23 XMAS XCAVATING XTRAVAGANSA

Our eigth annual Christmas dig was held yesterday

Photobucket

Beautifal WX day but slow finding, FINALLY a worked piece rolled out. . .

Photobucket

Thank goodness, a timely seasonal cake decoration, for a minute there Badger was afraid it was a
real gorget. . .

Photobucket

My turn, big beautifull quality point showing. . .

Photobucket

Must be the equivelent of getting coal in your stocking !

Photobucket

Heres Badger trying out her great new Xmas present. .

Photobucket

a , , TUSHCUSHion

Photobucket

My turn. . . . finally

Photobucket

An unbroken drill, my find of the day. . .
Thank you, thank you santa

Photobucket

Badger's turn again, base damaged Perd, note diggers glove display stripe. . .

Photobucket

And look what we have under a diggers Christmas tree. .

Photobucket

Maybe this pic should be under " mysterious Indian Orbs section " We used a nice tree branch decorated with cookies, decorations, tincel and topped with a STAR. Being slightly devoid of green needles, the "tree" completly disapeared in the pics ! [ look back at the above pic of Badger on her tushcush ^ ^ ^

Photobucket

Just a short dig day today so we combined the last two dig day's finds to make a better showing for Santa..

Photobucket

Just a better closeup of Santa. Thats a very small Mano [ probably used for grinding smaller menu portions like herbs & ****es ] Though complete drills are always something to be thankful for, That
complete Martindale is a better present than even the roller skates. .

Photobucket

Only one more thing to complete a very merry Christmas dig. . .

Photobucket

Kill the CHARDONEY . . .

Re: 12/23 XMAS XCAVATING XTRAVAGANSA

Here is something interesting about St. Genevieve

wine. The grapes are grown in West Texas, and the

distillery is out there also. The winery property

has several indian campsites on it, and the 3rd.

longest cave in Texas is just across the highway

from the plant. When we set the cave survey record

in the early 90's, we had a huge wine & cheese party

in the cave. The winery supplied the wine, and all we

had to do is bring the cheese!ALL of the vats at the

winery are made of stainless steel, and were shipped

in directly from France. They continue to do well here

in Texas. I've noticed that alot of diggers and cavers

seem to like it well.

Re: 12/23 XMAS XCAVATING XTRAVAGANSA

WOW, , , . . What a great piece of ID research Mike. I just buy the booze for dig parties, I never checked the COA's !
The bottle says cellard and bottled in FORT STOCKTON TX. The front label pic has a vinyard yard running right into a west Tx Mesa ! Chardonnay is spelled CHARDONNAY, not like I misspelled in the report.

Must be good stuff if Badger didn't chuck it up. . . .she better get used to it . . . Thats
our official Texas special dig events celebration
libation from now on

Re: 12/23 XMAS XCAVATING XTRAVAGANSA

The Vinyard & Winery is located at the McKenzie rd.

exit, 14 miles East of Fort Stockton, right off of

I-10. I hear there are alot of big wind turbines on

the mesas around there now. Amazing Maze Cave, Texas'

3rd. longest is right across the road from the winery.

The State Troopers love the place, and there always

lookin for drunk drivers from wine tasting parties!

Re: 12/23 XMAS XCAVATING XTRAVAGANSA

Hal, Nice bunch of artifacts & shots of Michelle & your digging, that had to be a fun day of digging & celebrating. I'll have to try that SG beverage you displayed, thats just to the North of my stomping grounds down South in Terrell county......John

Re: 12/23 XMAS XCAVATING XTRAVAGANSA

Here's some of the better ones washed. The black lump on the right is a broken gouge. Some gouges can be crafted as fine as a Montell, this was one of them.
Upside down Y is a bit of a mystery, was deep with the Martindale layer and is really thick. [ too thick for a worked down Frio ]
The big possible Hardin, pointing at Santa has a hint of perforator tip. . .

Photobucket

Drew, if your looking in. . . . I put a tip on that Angustura, only, did not fix edge damage.
It measures 3 9/16, I had the option to make it larger than your find but I didn't want to hurt
your feelings plus I didn't need a 6 inch angostura
Drill

Re: 12/23 XMAS XCAVATING XTRAVAGANSA

It's going to be a great 2010 dig year ! I'm planning ahead. I lined up at the store front door
with the rest of the after Xmas bargain shoppers. . .

SG also comes in half gallons

Photobucket

Hope Badger remembers to do some digging
