Limestone points

I am new to this Has anyone found Limestone points

Re: Limestone points

Yes Terry, oddly enough it dose happen. There were

some posted on this site about a year ago. Obviously,

they were made from a hard, dense, fine grained grade

material. You won't find much on it in any of the

books.

Re: Limestone points

Thanks Mike, I found 3 of them at an old camp near kerrville.

Re: Limestone points

PLEASE post them!! Sounds really cool, my great grandpa found one, my dad has it now, and I think it's limestone.

Re: Limestone points

I have two Limestone Paleo points at home that were collected from Val Verde Texas. I will post a picture of them later tonight. They are not flaked and I dont think you can flake limestone like flint.. but I am no expert so I will leave the flaking diagnostics to the people in the know. I dont even know what they are called so maybe someone will be able to tell me. They are not the best looking by any means but look paleo to me.

Re: Limestone points

I have only one Perd in my group that I call a true limestone. Nice but not finely made.

Carefull how you determine " limestone ". . .Some of the very common and NOT rare lowest quality CHERT can
be a close look alike.

Fortunatly there is a very simple and irrefutable test. Fill a water glass with Swimming pool, Muriatic acid.
Drop the test point in, if it disapears. . . its limestone,, , , , Chert: remove it with rubber gloves!

Re: Limestone points

Hal-Will you be performing this test soon? I have two of these Paleo points from Val Verde and I will sacrifice one to see if it is the perverbial sandstone. I am interested. Can we use yours instead? We will be pioneers in Sandstoneolgy !

Re: Limestone points

Watching your point disappear will produce the desired effect!

Re: Limestone points

Just wanted to note that of All the limestone points

I have seen, and found, None are what could be called

finely made. It may have been possible to do (like

once in a blue moon), but not probable.
