Limestone Point Example? Paleo?

I have read with interest the conversations on Limestone points. I may have one? that came from Val Verde Texas. It almost looks Clovis or Folsum as its fluted and does show it was knapped in some form or another. The flaking has worn over time but is still a nice example. Does anyone have some knowledge about what this may be? Material? It looks Paleo to me. I hope you enjoy the Pics. Overstreet had nothing I could compare to. Perhaps you Texas experts can tell me. Its 2.2 inches and not in bad shape.

Heres a better picture of the edge work. I hope this will help with the evaluation of the type. Thanks!

Basal form and presence of fluting look like Clovis to me

Re: Limestone Point Example. Paleo?

If thats really and truely limestone, I think the individual really had in mind to create a CLOVIS.
BUT that particular piece of stone did not "flake " well enough to create the traditional flaking we all know and love. . . Some of those pyramid building size limestone rocks I am moving at Chrisners is like cheese !
Because of being laid down in layers, some limestone would have a definite grain to it, probably tough to
get good co lateral flaking againt the grain.

I would keep it in the Paleo frame.

Re: Limestone Point Example. Paleo?

I'm agreeing alot with what Hal has said about it, but

I would not go as far in saying Clovis intent.

Considering what went in to making a Clovis, I think

those people pretty well knew what they had to have

material wise to get there. But only they knew if it

was just a curious experiment. Being quite honest

about it, there are things about it that reak OLD, as

in at least transitional paleo. In checking all the

characteristics and aspects I can observe, I wound up

somewhere between Plainview and Midland, and not

satisfied with either. Because of wear, so many

details are too fuzzy for certainty. So, Idahoe this

one hit too far out of the ball park for me. No, I

don't feel bad about that at all, because I'd really

question that Dwain could, or would do any better.

I will say that I am pleasingly impressed, as you not

only helped answer the previous post about limestone

points, but you picked one heck of a good example in

doing so!
