Clovis?

Found this on top after the big rain. Its not G10 but I am pretty sure its a clovis. Fluted down both sides though its hard too tell from pictures. What does yall think.

The last picture shows how much thinner the back is from the flutes.

Re: Clovis?

Got one just like it! D Rodgers said early triangle! I think mine was a resharpened Clovis from an earlier age! Hope it's a Clovis though, can't tell from flaking! My Clovis has a real distinct flaking! Great find, I hope it is!

Re: Clovis?

Hey G-Town. Nice point. My best guess, and it is a guess, is a Midland made into a gouge. I dont see Clovis but perhaps a transitional Folsum-Midland. The flaking looks Midland. My two-cents.

Re: Clovis?

Thanks guys, I havent had much experience with paleo stuff. Whatever it is I was happy to find something for the day.

Re: Clovis?

Interesting find G-Town.

The patina makes it difficult to see the flaking or a flute. One of those a person has to hold to make a reasonable guess. Whatever it originally was, it looks like it was prehistorically broken and rebased, then picked up much later and retouched along the edge. Like I said, hard to see the flaking, it might be a clovis that was prehistorically broken and reworked by later Indians.

Nice find.

Re: Clovis?

That was my thought too. You really have to hold it to see the flutes and even if its not clovis, im pretty sure its some sort of paleo. Its definetly been used up for sure.

Re: Clovis?

My observational thoughts rolled out quite similar.

Was tempted to say possible Midland before Clovis,

and I agree it looks paleo, and has undergone some

modifications to the point of being pretty used up.

Also kinda reminds me of a broken plainview I found

yesterday where it had patina'd over in original form,

and later reflaked removing parts of the patina. Still

a very good find!

Re: Clovis?

From the little ear that's left on it, I'd say it's a relative of the San Patrice.
