Heres the In-Situ's of todays nice Hopewell or KS Base Tang Knife that I saw on a gravel bar here in Southeast KS. Found this gem at 12 noon today, the 20th, my first full piece of KS quality flint for 2010. I looked from 10am till 1:00pm, then the rains started & the North wind picked up & I packed it in for the day. John
Mike it was cloudy, before the rains started when I photoed it & I never used a flash at all. Of course one side was still damp when I picked it up as it wasnt that far from running water, so that would explain some darkness on that side. It was just the angle this amatuer camera man took, the weather, etc. It did stick out like a diamond in a goats a@@, lol, I gotta admit, these are the easy ones to see, its those edges or tips barely showing that are easy to walk over or miss, unless their color catchs your eye. John....
Excelllent report and pics. It does stand out but thats some colorfull ( non limestone ) looking gravel.
For those that study point configurations. . . What was the original owner thinking of shooting with that
thing ? One would think the almost round radius of the "pointy" end would just make a buffalo very displeased
