Indian tooth pick?

Found this on a short hike today... it was laying next to a broken blade.. Anyone know what it is? Too small for a drill right?

Re: Indian tooth pick?

Neat handiwork on that flake. I'd call it a drill even as small as it is. They didn't need some monster drill to poke holes to sew up hides.

Re: Indian tooth pick?

That's really neat! Great find! Thanks for posting.

The holes in gorgets are small. I've never found any whole gorgets, but a few that have entact holes.

And the several drills I'v found are too large to have made the gorget holes.

Just a thought.

Re: Indian tooth pick?

That is a classic Toyah Phase drill made on a flake, with the long shaft, etc. Would be found with Perdiz, bone tempered pottery, bison bones, if in an
excavated site of the Toyah Phase, ca. AD 1250-1700.
Go to the TExas Beyond History website and look up
Late Prehistoric Toyah Horizon. Shows this type of drill with other Toyah artifacts.

Re: Indian tooth pick?

I was wondering why I hadn't found any points in this area.. just broken knives and scrapers. I also found bone fragments.. Also there is a lot of quartz fragments in the area.

Re: Indian tooth pick?

Your not the first one on the site. They are there but some pickers don't pick broken peices. An old picker friend of mine told me the points are the last finds you make. Your in the right spot just keep looking. Good Luck
