This was the opening of the new Nacho site at the south end of the Chalk Bluffs range. Easy early morning meeting place is where CR 405 comes into rt 55.
In and out of the site is across a low water bridge which the locals find excellent for washing their flint.
Just getting started, a test pit was previously made so no valuable screen time would be needed to move scrub & top soil...
Time to get to it, Thats Ace ( Nachos' boy ) on the right
Terry & Tracie were there for the full 3 day weekend
Fairly early in the morn Cy found a BEAUTIFULLY made duckbill Kerrville knife....This area had been known for K knives..
UNBELIEVABLE After showing us that duckbill, . . . . Cy went back to work and SIX MINUTES LATER from the same load he found ANOTHER one..
( note Ace walking away shaking his head )
Tracies' screening style means no dust between the toes !
Good screening form paid off....Checkout this great Kinney..
still looks good
Just a no frills ( or stuffed animals ) snap shot of these that Cy's buddy was about to dump in the back of the truck..
Aces' finds ( thats Ace inside the bee keepers net.) its for knats. They dont bite but are continually trying to make a new home in an ear
Like Father, like son....They both just chuck their finds in the dirt near a tree
Tracie back in the limelight consulting with the top bee keeper ..
People come from all over trying to figure out what it was..
The concensus of all the expert opinions is that it is a " WICKED MONTELL DRILL "
What could be more Texas than a hat full of flint
That Perd measures 3 7/8 inches, the hat measures 10 gallons
And THIS is my find of the weekend.....I recon to start the bidding on Ebay at $3,000. I just dumped out an afternoon snaCk of Nachos at Nachos and there she is....The toasted out line of MOTHER TERESA
Anyone would be well advised to stop right here and skip the rest....I visited the Nach dig on Saturday afternoon just to walk around and snap pictures, no plot, no stuffed animals,,,Blah
Mickey was just leaving as I was driving in...here's a pic of his 1 of THREE perfect Kerrvilles found this day
Fred and very finely crafted Friday
Steve found a complete GORGET...the cleanest backround we could find was right on his back
Here's the standard Gorget shot with the sun shining through the holes..
Tracie looking for the better finds among the wreckage of a good day...
The final Kerrville...
can you see the finds through the dust ?
more dust....If I didn't know better I would have thought Pat K was here , , , ,TeeHee
Quick cold rinse for a busted base tang
Larrys tailgate treasures
Joels Covington probably had the best fine flaking of the finds that day...
There's millions of flat rocks out in that part of the world just begging to be painted
well thanks for the thought. but my color is more like the thrill of brazil or cara mia crimson. and your mother teresa looks like a cross between the zig zag man and the mother t.
once again another fun report thanks for sharing.
Morning of the last day. The dig area was entirely blanketed in "moon dust"...Exactly like an overnight snow.....There are 4 different creature tracks in the pic..
Here's Roscoe with the machine that created the moon dust...
Joel & Nach
Fred with a big Perd find
Big surprise in MY egg pan !
It's a beauty, bit of an odd shape, other experts ( not me ) call it a Triangle KNIFE
Only a half hour later I came up with an Angostura....AND its got four edge notches that Nach rates as an Eccentric. Sounds good but I think the original owner was using it as a spoke shave for removing bark from shafts.
There was so much flint being found....even ROSCOE found something...
ITS A CORNER TANG
One in the pan
The only reason for the next pic is strictly to prove that I was actually there ...
