First Fine American Dinnerware

My buddy found this with the mano, two knifes and the ( I think its called )a stunner. He sold them to me this last week. I think the plate makes great backgrounds for rock photos. The plate is 16" X 8" and it is perfect. Black carbon back, extemely flat. no breaks or cracks anywhere. The mano has a fire starter stick indent. the knives are both uniface curved blades, any ideas on age ? Found on the S. San Gabrial

Re: First Fine American Dinnerware

its very hard to find a metate in that condition most are usually broken in halves because they have been rubbed so thin. on your stunner i think they were more used as a hafted scaper. thats just my opinion though. the mono is fantastic. and i think the knives are more like scapers also pretty flint though. good show.

Re: First Fine American Dinnerware

Lotta food for thought on the dinner ware. Everything out of natural context in a fire rock camp was brought there at one time for a reason. Plate rather than Matate may well be right. Just a place to set some food out of the dirt.
I'm a pretty low believer in how many point types like that were "stunners". Just imagine if the difference between having something to eat or going hungry all day depended on NOT stunning a creature for a minute then have it run off on a quick recovery. I had considered that some that look like yours are just from hunters that have given up on continual point replacement. Flint is so fragil, I assumed one throw per point is the most they would get without reloading.
Good show.

Hey Guy's

Thanks for the input I usally just collect knifes points, and blades. But this plate caught my attention and the fact that all 5 items were found together w/in 2sq ft of mound, he called it a cache. Is that correct ? I also thought what he was calling the stunner may realy be a scraper on a stick, what they used to clean hard to reach places inside an animals fur. I told ya before I'm new at this. I got another piece or two you wouldn't exactly call dinnerware. Very rare stuff I'll post em this morning after I get some coffee. Thanks again.
