i have been trying to knap points for about 4 months now. I haven't had good material so i finally bought some these are my first to tries with good mterial.
I went to the Knap-in at Fredricksburg last April. A dealer was doing a knaping demo and let me take some
pieces.
Said it was a special obsidion from California. Special because it was very dense and flaked well.
Good material? I like your napping but i have yet to see a knaper yet nape a point out of black Chet or flint like the Clovis did. The flaking is never the same and the material is extremely hard .

Practice makes perfect, here's two of my repros, top Rainbow obsidian..Eden out of sunset jasper.
Perfect to dip in mud and throw on your buddies' side of the screening table
throw those on my side of the table please. did you find anything today i noticed you were up early again today.
This is like living at home again
Went to Chrisners early. Tried all around the "High camp" for a change. Not even a heartbreaker !
It was so hot, my dig buddy SPYDER stirred up a rabbit to chase.....and they were both walking
when i started to knap my slabs i shot parallel flakes all the wy accross the slab. i said man looks good but now i have to thin it. when i tried to thin it it took away my parallel flaking and i ended up with the fine flaking you see above how do i keep the flking like i see in your points.

j, I dont knap at all,just heresay! When that "gray Ghost" flap hit the fan some time back, in researching it on Google, it was said that all his work was made from slabs and they couldn't figure out how he did it. Apparently it is hard / impossible to knap out the smooth cut layer in the middle.
If you dont recall the example, Google "gray Ghost flint" ....The Guy made THOUSANDS of these high quality ( though oversized ) reproductions, all from diamond cut slabs..
He died from siliconosis ( inhaleing gray ghost slab dust}
