I have been an avid fan for the last 5 years, but have never posted. I found this bone hook Labor Day weekend in a private camp on the Colorado River in Lampasas County. I have found ensors, bird points, and multiple other points in this camp as well. Just wanted to share a unique find. Thanks
Good find, some lucky Indian family was living good on fish.
Your hook and some I've seen from the pacific NW, I wonder how they were able to properly secure the string on good enough to handle the tug of a caught fish.
"string" might have been rawhide or a plant product. The Stren monofilament salesman could have made a fortune back then
I was pretty shocked when I found it. I first thought it was an old nail bent in half. It had a good amount of dirt clinging to it. when I cleaned it off, I about messed my pants. Thanks for all the "way to goes" and positive reply's. It is a joy to share!
Just for the sake of conversation....
I wonder just how far back in time that particular hook goes ?? If you think about it...that model looks like the equivilent of inventing the first wheel
People had been spearing and trapping fish for thousands of years, yet ONE single individual had to experiment with what would "fool" a fish into eating something that was a one way trip to the frying pan !
Adding an eye and a barb would have been the equivilent to putting that first wheel on a Model T

whatever the case I imagine it may be slightly more effective than a "flint lure" lol it sure is a nice find!
