As many of you know, i'm a collector that relies on purchasing points, rather than finding them myself.
I passed on these "grey ghost" today, i think one of them might of been authentic, but i just passed all together.
Good pass ! a few look like what to expect from a modern knapper that just got bored with cranking out
traditional facsimilies
We're reminded again of the tremendous fraud market out there. Since flint does not deteriorate, the flood of
fakes being put on the market now will be around a few hundred yrs from now, just in unimmaginable quantities.
If I see a groupe of points that you know most of them are fakes. Its not worth trying to find a good one out of several bad ones. I will not touch any of them as I would say most are all fakes. Its real hard to be sure on finding a good one when most are not real. If most of the points look bad I will not take a chance on any of them. If your buying a nice collection then sometimes you can get a bad one but stay away from collections who are mostly fake as you will get taken. I have bought several collections over 40 years and always look at over all collection and where found and who found them. Best to find your own points.. You diggers in Texas are lucky to be able to dig as most states and places are off limits..
