Yesterdays Creek Finds 1-11-11

I love the date today !
Got out to a old work buddies creek yesterday. Asked him if he minded if walked his creek? "He said help yourself". I told him "if I find anything good ? Pizza is on me !" Looks like I'm cookin him a Mother Load. These were the whole pieces, many parts. The one big one I can't ID. All tooling marks have been worn off completly even at 50X, I can't see any knapping marks. I thought it was a sand stone but under the scope you can tell it's tan chert the only fracture is on the point. Yall have any ideas ?

Rock?

Re: Yesterdays Creek Finds 1-11-11

If You look real close and your paying attention.... there's three rocks and a coin The big rock is flint and is shaped like it was made by nature. I almost threw it back. Here is a better view for sceptical oinker

Limestone, the caliche will scrape off and turn glassy looking. i use to play with some fo the amterial here in kentucky that stuff is everywhere. Sometime you will find a piece worked but it was made for stone tools axes, celts, gorgets. You can put a small piece in a rock tumbler and it will turn glossy. But form the picture its limestone has some ancient inclusions of shell fragment and plant fragments.Remeber millions of years ago the earth was under water.

Re: Yesterdays Creek Finds 1-11-11

IT IS FLINT or CHERT. It is not limestone. It is not Sandstone or slate... It is flint. I have viewed the nose fracture at the distel end at 50X magnification with stereo scope Meji... Identified the material. I don't have a camera for my Meji yet. There is no question as to the stones material. The question is, Did God Knapp this flint stone in the short creek it was found in ? or was thier a Native American involved ? I have never seen a piece of flint shaped like this by nature.
I will have to bring it to the Freddysberg flint stone show on the 29th See ya thier

Re: Yesterdays Creek Finds 1-11-11

Distal end.... Sorry the nose of the thing.. U know what I meant

Re: Yesterdays Creek Finds 1-11-11

Well aside from the blade that got all the attention, Thats some good finds from a Pizza creek..sort of a mushroom white
Along with the pic of the giant trampoline...did you find that big white blade in the creek too ? ( the blade on the right side )

Re: Yesterdays Creek Finds 1-11-11

I have found many tools like this one they had to be used for smoothing hides maybe or to polish another rock.

Re: Yesterdays Creek Finds 1-11-11

No Hal, I found the White Knife about 8 miles north of the creek these were found in. I posted it in Oct or Nov. when it was found. I think the post was titled my best so far. or something like that.I have traded my last three best hunts including the one with the knife for Pizza trades. The power of Pizza in the land of the San Gabrials is incredible! eatable I guess. People who have camps or artifacts on thier land somtimes have no interest in this sort of hobby at all, which I find weird. If I'm droppin off a pizza at a nice ranch on a creek or spring, I always ask if they have found any artifacts or if they are interested. You never know what they might say

Hey Snoop, It probably is just a polishing rock. or used to mash brain into stiff hide I have a pile of stones that I'm not sure what they were used for. (but I know they were used) I also found a 57 T-bird old school Match Box from the early 70's. I left it out of the photo cause it's in bad need of new paint. My 18 month old Grandson has adopted it already not knowing it is bad need of repair Too cold for me to hunt today. Take care Y'all

Re: Yesterdays Creek Finds 1-11-11

thats sweet kris the matchbox sounds cool

Re: Yesterdays Creek Finds 1-11-11

Good explanations.
We also know a couple of land owners that have zero interest in any artifacts on their property. I find that incredible since it's a record of the people that lived on their land before THEY left a '57 artifact for the people one millenium in the future from now
