MOQUI MARBLE,- SHAMAN STONE, -MARKESITE,- HEMETITE

Badger found a nice classic "shaman stone" on the last dig.

Photobucket

Its in it's natural state, no polishing or pecking.

Photobucket

It's also got the classic "starburst" interior pattern defined as Markesite (hemetite) nodules.

Photobucket

This particular interior would be considered poor. Good ones can be brillient silver

Next time your digging at the Starr look close at the dug up dirt you have to walk across to get to where you are going...There is a good smattering of 'shaman stones'
Last week while digging below the habitation level I found a big patch of undisturbed stones. I cleared the area and took the following pic.

I brought a couple home to clean up and 'tried' to cut one in half.
The starburst pattern is clearly visible but the red of the hemitite is at an absolute minimum. Part of the interior now looks like agatised material.

Mother nature has an unusual way of modifying her minerals

Saw cutting was not a good show.
I smacked the biggest one with a chisel, sidelighting better shows strong star burst pattern & hemitite coloration.
