Pyritized Markesite Pat...same as all those Moqi marbles & Shamen stones...just not red.

Re: ???

Shape not unusual except for the "hole" which looks man made. The second pic down best shows that dimpled effect which is the signature of the material.
YES exactly...iron Pyrite... s gold (or in this case s SILVER )

Re: ???

yea i dig pools the hole is not man made more like the tail end of it the other side looks flatened like it impacted

Re: ???

When flo found it there was an obvious line from the top of the ground into solid rock were the object came from the sky and hit hard. It's not fools gold as I have seen lots of that around. We have shown it to a number of geologist and meteorite people and nobody can identify the material. You can see were the object melted in one direction coming into the atmosphere I would assume, and left the "man made" hole coming off the back of the object. Its hard to see in the picture but the rock is chrome like a Cadillac. And has not dulled in 7 or so years

Re: ???

its the locknar!

Re: ???

I wonder if lightning could impact that deep and melt the natural metals in the ground there or even have a natural iron it carries with it. just thinking way outside the box.

Re: ???

tryed a magnet and nothing i just dont know its dence and heavy

All these mystery rock ID's are getting serious...we need a fully accredited nobel winning resident geologist on the forum

Interesting you note an entry channel leading to the Cadillac bumper. Years ago in my boating & fossil days
I scanned a lot of exposed s****line in the CenTx area hopeing to see such a mark,
The cliffs we are looking at was sea bottom or mud 100 million + yrs ago and might have "cushioned" meteorite falls.

I never found anything close. One thing bothered me though about making a good meteorite find...
Markesite is described as being formed in
" cold and deep " Limestone. The soft mud a meteorite would have hit must have had a very high consentration of salt. Salt would break down even
meteorietic iron & chrome leaving just powdered red dust.

I stand by my first evaluation

Re: ???

I agree with Hal, Markasite. There is nothing in either photo which even hints of it being a meteorite.
