I usually don't post, except to give an opinion now and then. Or if I come across something worthy. I think these qualify, although I don't really know what they are. Supposed Zapata county cache, but different from Caracaras. Range from 2&7/8-3&3/8". About 3/16" thick at the most. Any thoughts?
The only thought that comes to mind is " GORGEOUS "
But we're curious for a tad more details. Were they really found together as a cache ? Yours ?
I would speculate one thing ( no matter what type they are )..The maker certainly created them for their
beautiful material and never had any intention of tying them on a stick.
Don't know the point type, but the chalcedony is right for the area. I hunted Falcon,Zapata, RGC, area for years, lot of high quality banded agates, jaspers, chalcedony, carnelians, and petrified woods. I found agatized snails and coquina's around Falcon and agatized wood around RGC.
Found several points of rootbeer flint in the same area but they were of the ET and Matamoros varieties.
I have seen some points somewhat similar posted before from that area.
Hal, Finder is not me, but I own them now. Won't give me the ranch name. I suppose to avoid interlopers? Hester says not Caracara related. Similar types have been found near Torreon, Mexico.
..If they were mine I would be tempted to build a special display case with a soft back light...
Good to see you ( and the points ) at the show Mike.
You dont need any help with how to display them but for other collectors that might not have seen a
lighted frame for translucents,,,,
here's one that was on display at the show..
