Ohio arrowhead searching

I will be spending all of next week up north in Chillicothe, Ohio and I was just wondering if anyone had ever hunted arrowheads in that area? I will be visiting my in-laws and they have a few acres on a large hill with a creek below. They found an arrowhead while plowing their garden a few years ago and I was just wondering if I should search strictly on the hill or concentrate some of my efforts along the edge of the creek as well? Any input is appreciated.

Re: Ohio arrowhead searching

Well now, Chillocothe means town center so to speak in Shawnee. Big time old Indian area. The city has a big festival in early spring with lots of Native American crafts and a mountain man sort of get together. A high hill over looking water is always a good place to start. SE slope with sandy loam soil could pay off. Go drink coffee early some morning with the locals. You can hear amazin' things about artifacts in little country coffee gatherings. Look fom the top of the hill all the way down to the creek.

ONE WEEK IS NOT ENOUGH

I checked a map of where this place is...WOW...right in the very heart of ancient civilisations...Seip Mounds S.P. Hopewell culture ctr. Tecumseh S.P.
Must also be a very beautiful area, several scenic roads radiate out from Chillc.

Flint Ridge Ohio is well reknown as a quarry for top quality and beautiful flint for the entire NE USA.

Just at the S edge of Cleveland is a river that cuts through world class fossil beds ( very ancient marine types, not T-Rex's )

Take some empty backpacks with you for your explorations....Your deep in the heart of hardstone
creations of all sorts, pottery, copperware and colonial trade goods.

Great time of year to visit the rust belt too...it's not so rusty right now

I dont know of any dig sites but its getting pretty close to the GEM POINT part of the world. Thats a very old lake so it must have attracted people from day one in N America...Try looking between the casino parking lots
Your visit will be too late for the recent finds that are reported on this evenings ABC news...

1...a 'body' has been recovered from the lake, ID'ed as a diver that has been missing for 17 YEARS..( must have had his initials on his dive tank )

2...600,000 marijana plants are found and destroyed just west of the lake.
