I found a few more interesting photos from digs past, including a rocksheleter in Val Verde Co with pictographs that y'all might enjoy seeing. Two photos that require some additional explanation are the close up of a rock ledge inside the rock shelter that had numerous vertical man made incisions. As a flint knapper I believe these were where they were using the ledge to dull the sharp edges of their preforms (a part of the flint knapping process). Also there is a picture of a bison bone fragment I found in the rock shelter and if you look close on the top of the bone you can see 3 ancient cut marks (aka butchering marks) where they cut into the bone while butchering the animal.
I also took a pic of our recent first finds from the mounds at our place that I mentioned in my last post near Montell/Camp Wood area. Thats my son standing on top of the mound that we are now starting to dig. The ears on that big perd are not broken/snapped, but rather made squared - I am guessing it was a knife so no need for sharp barbs.
There's ANOTHER ONE.!..
Look at that gorgeous KK... ..That Nueces valley should be world famous for the type { maybe should have been better named the Nueces Nife }
Thats some tough looking country where the shelter is. With so much exposed raw stone baking in direct summer
sun it must have been like sleeping in an oven at night.
Tks for the report. Sho wish I had a pic of me at that age standing on the family camp site
