Laws On Digging?

Any laws on digging for arrowheads on your own land?

Re: Laws On Digging?

I'm sure it varies from state to state, from what I understand it's okay if it's your property. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

I did and I guess what they mean by private land is someone else's land or posted land. If I understood it right you can on your own land as long as it's not a burial site or something like that. The way they word it sometimes is a little confusing to me anyway. Thanks for responding.

Re: Laws On Digging?

Private land is the only land you can dig on for artifacts in Texas. Digging on Federal and State land is forbidden. Should you care to read the new Texas law on unmarked, unknown and unregistered burial grounds on private land you can Google: Surveying Family Burial Grounds. This law includes all burial grounds including Native American. The law is well-meaning but probably ill advised..............too many hoops for the land owner to jump through. I'm afraid that it will result in land owners just not reporting old burial grounds when they do find them.
There was an unmarked cemetery on the farm where I grew up. The folks buried there were probably slaves. It was along the high bank of the creek amongst some big live oaks. Lots of daffodils would be blooming there this time of year.

I think I'm done venting about it now. lol On another forum a person sent me a link to information involving a cheap program here in AR that trains you in the field of archeology and will do so all the way up to field archeologist. So that's something I'm going to check into. It will help with some of my concerns I think. I didn't realize until now that they had such a program so I'm happy about it. Hopefully it's as good as it sounds. Hard work though, of course.
