Got out to dig on my birthday yesterday and I was justly rewarded. I couldn't have hoped for a better day in Burnet County.
At 11:30am I had this sticking out at me. (I hope it's all there....)

A few moments later (it's still there....)

And the result! YES!!!!!
The blade had a little cortex on the end, but she sure is a beauty!
One side
And the other
I kept digging for a few more hours and nothing else came out, so I moved to another camp. Good thing I did, or I wouldn't had gotten this heartbreaker blade and two nice little birdies.
How much more could someone hope for on their birthday!
That Cortex end I have always taken as the Knappers way of showing off a bit. Maybe to show he was able to use
every millimeter of the flint flake without thinning.
A LOT of missile points show the cortex very close to the base, for the color aesthetic ?
I have several big blades with some cortex remaining on the bases. Those blades are all Angosturas. Good find; you were the first person to touch that blade in the past 8000 to 9000 years.

Redman, so is the flaking representative of paleo flaking? I see some parallel flaking on it, but this blade came out of the same level as a 4" bulverde found by another guy. Just wondering.
