Thanks Hal, I couldn't get the depth of the bowl and the striking effect in the same photo, the lower pict shows the depth of the metate. The metate will hold a cup and a half of water. I think they used it as a bowl as much as a grinding metate. Sure is heavy 50 lbs plus.

Thats a very sizable grind stone, just imagine all that hollowed out area being in the food !
And your picture composition is even more apropriate.....APPLE SAUCE
