Sunday's finds

It was a day for finding brokes, but after not being able to get out much this year, sure had a good time.

This darl sure would have been a nice one!

This one was found Saturday, invited my son-in-law out for a few hours, he had never been on a dig, had done a little surfacing. We were digging with the skidsteer and I noticed a little hammerstone in the trench and we hopped in to take a look, well he brushed away the sand off the top of it and there was two more laying right beside it and without any hesitation he stuck his fingers down in the loose sand and pulled out this point, Nice to see beginners luck in action!

Anybody have any input on the type or formation of this rock?

Re: Sunday's finds

Even with brokes, you did pretty good. Neat looking rock, no idea if it was used for anything.

Re: Sunday's finds

Good finds & good finding story. I got anew respect for the Perdiz point. The Hester book details that
the type is found in All Tx except the panhandle and
a large part of northern Mexico....thats a lot of people using the same technology.
Stone would probably be nondescript except for the red color, possibly something brought home to show mom ?

Re: Sunday's finds

Sure would like to know where that rock came from, it is not one that I have ever seen around these parts.
Was hoping the way it seems to have layers and the little nipple at the end might be clue to someone to where and how it was formed? Thanks

Re: Sunday's finds

we have those red rocks all over our place... alot of them... including solid black one's have white lines or white other rock going through them...

Re: Sunday's finds

Hey Chris, what county is your place in? Do they have the little nipple at the end?

If that rock was mine I would grind a small flat on it to look inside. Does that red run right through ?
If just an external coating, how did it survive weathering or creek tumbling?
IF it can be proven to be limestone, it might be a unique cave stone ( formed in a cave environment with
dripping water. )
Mother nature did some amazing things with mud before it became limestone.

If it's the same feature as Chris is reporting, he ought to smack a few of them open and see what the entire inside might look like. The "black" he notes might be weathered hemitite (iron) that can be a very dark rust / near black.

Re: Sunday's finds

It has a 1/4" chip in it on one side and it is red.

Maybe Chris can take pic of the ones on his ranch?

Thanks!

Re: Sunday's finds

sorry... i was at the ranch this weekend!.. i'm in fayette county!

Re: Sunday's finds
