Good evening everyone. At the last digfest my girlfriend won a free day dig at the Mckinnerney ranch in Junction. I've done some research and read it was dug years ago by the Dirt brothers.Has anyone been there before, that could give any useful info on what area's may still be holding any artifacts.Any help would be appreciated!
Thank's
Dirt bros were merrily at work at Bev's then brought in the Backhoe. That was too much, Bev shut the site for a number of yrs then opened it to hand diggers only.
Type in " HUNT N PECK" in the search block at the top of this mssg bd page.
Finds were away from the river side of the camp center. Like any older dig site, Bev's got her "regulars" that come out every week, Their new digging is
the best bet to continue.
The property runs for a full mile along the river (the largest part of the ranch is "across the main road ")....chances of surface finds are excellent.
Tendency is to hunt along the river but there is very good flint flake signs right up along the main road.
While no other actual fire rock middens are known on the property, there is good evidence of plenty of hearth rock fires all along the level above the river ( heat discolored rock )
Ask her about camping if thats your thing ( also hunting )
Good info! Thanks we appreciate it! I enjoy seeing campsites where I've never been, that's half the fun.Of course finding a nice point or two while getting dirty are the sprinkles! Thanks!
