Old Bones

I found these two bones on a sand island in the Cibolo Creek on my property and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what animals they came from. The larger one is fossilized/stone and real heavy for its size. The orange smaller one does not feel fossilized like the other one but it does not have the feel of bone either.

Re: Old Bones

Not even a wild guess from me as to what creatures they are.. "heavy" usually indicates bones are old enough to have started mineralising so might go either way,,,,,fossil or somebodys' leftover dinner from XX thousands of yrs ago.
I cant figure the 'unusual' damage to that one end of the big one > doesn't seem man made OR creature chewed
Good show though

PS:
I thought that big bone looked somewhat familiar...Look back at the recent posting titled " HORN & BONE".......down near the bottom, I stuck a point in mine. The "texture" of mine is reasonably soft and light...It was not mineralising and probably would have been dust after not many centuries down the road..

Re: Old Bones

The larger bone is a bovine metacarpus, the smaller is a phalanges, from the lower legs of different animals. They are probably from a domestic cow but could be from a bison.
