Possible midden???

Hi, my name is sam and i live in sonora,tx. I work on a big ranch just east of sonora off I-10 about 12 miles between junction and sonora. I found this mound with lots of grey fire rock. And since then have started on the north west side on the edge and started digging. Only signs i have found are pieces of flint. And im really just wondering if i may have any luck. It looks to be maybe 30 yards from a solid rock bed looks like an old river bed. If anyone has an idea let me know maybe shoot me an email. Thanks

Re: Possible midden???

Fire rock and flint usually a good sign. Dig a test hole and let us know what you found. Maybe post some pics of the site.

Re: Possible midden???

Keep digging.. Need pics.

Re: Possible midden???

Fire rock & flint flakes is a solid camp indicator, finding good artifacts is only a question of moving dirt.
2 thoughts....Be VERY SURE to go deep enough, well below the obvious black soil.. #2,,,make a 2X4 frame with 1/2 inch wire mesh screen...Could be a bird point camp with very small points that are hard to see unless screened.

Re: Possible midden???

Are you finding flint? Or flint chips that would show signs of flint being worked into actual tools/points? 30 yards from an old river bed may be to close for a midden unless its on higher ground.

Where are the pics?
