My take for the trip minus a few broke ones

This was one days finds between 3 guys. We hiked 30 miles that day around a lake.

Re: Oregon desert hunting 4/20 weekend

Thats an excellent report on a neat trip.
Must be a flow of Obsidion up in them thar hills.! That unique base of yours a Murry ?
Finding a near clear point on that light backround....good

Thanks very much for the show

Re: Oregon desert hunting 4/20 weekend

WOW! very impressed! you were on my stompin grounds. I've spent the last thirty years hiking that desert. Gotta love those paiutes... they were all over that desert. The reddish colored heartbreaker obsidian came from glass buttes over near burns. a lot of the other obsidian comes from davis creek south of lakeview and some comes from near paisley. What area were you near? first week of may I will be going over to Guano Valley...about 30 miles from lakeview. Are you off just on weekends? I will be over there for 5 days. I will also be going to Coleman valley to pick up some broken pieces of matate and pestles and bowls we left behind last year.

Re: Oregon desert hunting 4/20 weekend

And by the way....after 30 years of eating dust out there I never found a stone bead!....GREAT FIND! This is about the best time of year to be out there.

Re: Oregon desert hunting 4/20 weekend

Thanks Tom, I'm proud of my bead for sure. We were out in the Warner hunting this go round, mostly around lake beds. It will be a while before I get out again, but if I do I will give you a heads up and maybe we will run into each other.

Hal, I believe the broken point you are referring too was called a fox eared desert side notched.

Re: Oregon desert hunting 4/20 weekend

I spend alot of time in warner valley. guano valley is just east of warner.(its the next large valley over) these two spots are probably some of the best hunting areas in the oregon desert. I love working those alkali lakes.

I went to the North Pacific section of the Overstreets...No foxes, BUT, I flipped by the FOLSUM page of the NP.....WOW Even a tiny broken base
is a high $. If you can use a new , pickup one of these.

Dam Tom, THIRTY YEARS surfacing and you missed all the finds the Gtwn group found !

I Googled "OREGON PAIUTE INDIANS"...seems Burns is pretty much the present day heart of the modern Paiutes... lotta good info on their ancestors ( the Wadatika).
On a quick review I found it very interesting that 9000 yrs ago the dry alkali desert lakes were nice full lakes with people living all around the
edges much closer to the mountain slopes with caves & shelters...sounds like the original ' Eden'

Compare with Gtwn's report pics.

Re: Oregon desert hunting 4/20 weekend

Hal, look up Abert Lake Artifacts. Abert Lake and Abert Rim are near where G-town was hunting. There was an archeological dig there many years ago.... they found a treasure trove of artifacts. Lake Abert is an alkali lake that still fills with water every year.

Re: Oregon desert hunting 4/20 weekend

All very interesting area ( including the real Estate ads on Google for "lakefront property " on a lake that dries up ! )
