R.Y : celts don't have grooves. what you have are grooved axes.
the top one is made of hematite (iron oxide) not sure but the bottom
on looks like it too is hematite.

Good detail...But they are indeed stones !
Those are beautiful examples. There is so much craftsmanship in any hardstone object, they must have been ranked with the family Jewels !

R.Y i agree with hal those axes are great finds. were they east texas finds?
when i figure out how to post photos i'll post a photo of a grooved ax
