I saw something earlier about soaking artifacts in mineral oil to bring out the natural color. I was wondering if anyone in central Texas had done this and if y'all would recommend it. I don't want to compromise the integrity of my points in any way since I will sell all one day. Any info/opinions appreciated :)
Seems to work best on Florida coral points. Never tried, but maybe would add some color back to some of the very bleached points. It shouldn’t hurt, with time they will dry out and return to their current natural look. I would test it on parts of similar material and condition before I tried it on my good stuff. Personally, I don’t see a reason to do it.
I soaked some points in mineral oil several years ago. Made some of the patina go away, but had a spotted look. Wished now that I would have left them alone. Wouldnt do it again.

Agreed, dont mess with Mother nature. Even worse, many yrs ago in my youth, I did a frame of just the most intense colored points...I used Johnsons acrylic floor wax...
it jazzed up the colors alright but it now looks like a freshly varnished floor
