The Singing Detective, if you have seen the film please reply!!

Hi Everyone!
I thought I should ask you guys, cause I know how awesome you all are! You know the film Singing Detective... well I'm doing a project for school on mental illness. Would you consider Robert's character in the film (Dan Dark) to have schizophrenia? If not I will have to change films, my next choice is Restoration, using Robert's patient/wife character as my example. Please help me out :)
