The "another fan" who wrote here si right, Laurie. If you want to do this kind of events, you must contact David's team for that, because, as far as I know, David doens't do these kind of events anymore. I've known from other artists who still do that, but not David.

The last time I went to The Grove, they were very strict. They even checked fans purses and bags for cameras, which are not allowed at this venue. I think they might have let a few fans on one side go up one at a time during "Cherish" to hand a rose to him but that was it. It's a very fancy "sit down" dinner show type of place. David was there on Valentine's Day a few years ago and I dressed up and I noticed many other fans did also. It's not like a more casual "bar" or "casino" venue.

It's also important to note that David stopped doing M&G's due to just a few fans "bad behavior." So it's important that when we go to see him that we try not to "hog him" for attention. Remember to be polite and if you're lucky enough to get a hand shake or something, to then either sit down or stand back to let other fans have a chance too. It's also good that if you want to see him after the show to go through the "proper channels" and email someone in "his team" for a M&G and not to try to run and chase him. That would only make him more paranoid and we don't want that! Only from fans respecting David and each other will he ever reconsider going M&G's for them again. That's my opinion anyway. Cat, I don't think they let fans up to give him a rose at The Grove. They did that at the Hollywood Bowl if you bought one of the expensive roses they were selling. Anything for a buck, eh?

Yes, Cat, that's exactly what I heard about David's meeting with fans. It was about something that happened to him during those meetings and that's why he decided not to do it anymore. Anyway, Laurie, if you have the chance to do something like this, please ask ONLY to his team about that, and good luck!

What happened at the meet and greet that upset David? Just curious. It's a shame that nutty fans have to ruin it for the rest of us.

I'm not quite sure about what really happened, perhaps Cat (who has a great David website too) could tell you more details about it. I think she knows more about the incident than me. The only thing I know was this: he decided not to do fans meetings anymore because of a disgreable thing that happened in one of those reunions between him and some fans.

What was posted at the time was fans sneaking into meet and greets and bothering him in his hotel.

I don't often post here but I saw this thread and thought I should answer this. Below is a reprint of the paragraph from our newsletter that details what happened. We were told the details by David's office. Just as an update, a fan asked prior to Mohegan Sun to try and get David to do a meet and greet and she told me that she was told by Mohegan that "Due to personal reasons and the behavior of some fans at recent meetings, David is no longer doing meets and greets".
So it seems he is sticking to this and at this time, any attempt to try to get him to do one, won't work. Best to let him be to get over it and let him decide later if he does it on his own.

HERE IS THE PARAGRAPH FROM THE NEWSLETTER:
However, following these two concerts, JUST DAVID received this statement from David’s office and was asked to notify fans: Due to incidents last weekend the decision has been made that there will be no more fan meet 'n greets unless the venue demands it for high rollers ONLY. Fans wormed their way into the backstage area from outside the building and overcrowded the area. Further, several fans showed up on 2-3 consecutive nights making it impossible for the meet 'n greet requested by the venues staff to take place. The “no fan meet & greets” decision will also be implemented during the UK tour dates. Upon further contact with David’s office we learned the following: In Orange County there were fans at the ‘fan meet and greets’ both nights who snuck in and were not on the guest list and David saw this when he entered each meeting. Also fans found out David’s hotel and somehow found out his room, and they were calling up his room and slipping notes under his door. This got so bad that David had to change his room on the second night in Orange County! In Phoenix, there were some in the ‘fan meet and greet’ with passes that David wasn’t originally told would be there, and consequently it became hectic and chaotic with fans trying to get photos with him and David wasn’t pleased in the end. And again, fans found his hotel and bothered him there. When he was returning to the hotel after the concert, David and the band noticed a good number of fans were staked out in the lobby waiting for David. Without going in, David cell phoned his assistant in L.A. to change him to another hotel, which he went to and his luggage was brought there. Isn’t it sad that the behavior of some overzealous fans again spoiled something good for all the rest of the fans?

It's too bad, because when fans are appropriate and polite and do not besiege him, he is very sweet. He just likes to be approached on his own terms. I am suprised fans have not learned this by now.

Of course it's sad, Barbara, specially for all of us who loves David, and because of that, we wouldn't bother him at all, just to say Hi to him (well and a kiss on the check wouldn't be so bad at all, would it? LOL)
And that's not fair for all of us, but I can undestand him, because something like this happened a year ago in Venezuela, when I met a famous singer in Latin America (Carlos Vives) and it was horrible, just almost as the David experience you narrated. It's a very sad fact that, because of a few nut fans, we all must pay.

My problem is about joining there, because there's no way to send you any money, because we have temporary restrictions in that aspect in Venezuela right now.
