Install webmail ON your website? sorry that really doesn't make sense, what exactly are you trying to do?

Re: Re: How do I instal squirrel webmail on my website?

Well I want to provide a webmail for my website users (those whom I have provided with e-mails of my website e.g any_name@mywebsite.com). I learned that squirrel webmail is a free webmail which any webmaster can use on his/her website to check his pop3 e-mails like the one above. But for it to work, Iam required to instal it on my website but I don't know how to do that. I tried to read the "read me" but I didn't understand how it works. I thought someone here is using it or similar webmail which he/she can recommend for me. Thanks.

Re: Re: Re: How do I instal squirrel webmail on my website?

Bravenet already provides Webmail.. why duplicate what you already have?

Re: Re: Re: How do I instal squirrel webmail on my website?

Anybody who gets as far as your site will have sorted out their own email accounts already.

Most mail providers seem to provide a web mail utility these days and most specialist web mail providers let you connect to your POP3 account. I have never come across one that requires you to anything more sophisiticated tham bookmarking a page.

Re: How do I instal squirrel webmail on my website?

What level of hosting do you have? Only the premium hosting allows server side scripts.

The requirements for running Squirrelmail (according to http://www.squirrelmail.org) are UNIX/Linux or Windows, IMAP4rev1 server and a Web server with PHP4 installed. You might try raising a support ticket to check with Bravenet staff whether their hosting has all of this available. You never know, they may even have Squirrelmail (or an equivalent product) already installed to save you needing to install it for yourself.

The install process requires a knowledge of how the server is configured and where certain items are placed so you'll need to raise a support ticket anyway to see if Bravenet will tell you the information required for the install.

Re: Re: Re: Re: How do I instal squirrel webmail on my website?

Thanks everyone for your great replies, yes I know bravenet provides webmail but their webmail has one big disadvantage, and that is, it doesn't grant option to change one's password if need be, I would like my users to have this option. That is why I wanted a webmail that will give me such option (ability to be able to change password). I have a premium account, so I think I am entitled to all services. Thanks to all of you for your help, I will try to open a ticket.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: How do I instal squirrel webmail on my website?

Installing your own webmail will not change how your email works or give access to password changing where no option exists to begin with.

Re: Re: How do I instal squirrel webmail on my website?

Hey Steven I visited your model railroad pages...wow! Great articles and stuff...

Re: Re: Re: How do I instal squirrel webmail on my website?

Thanks Morgan for letting me know that, I thought installing my own webmail would solve my problems including the ability to change password. Thanks.

Re: Re: Re: Re: How do I instal squirrel webmail on my website?

To do that you would have to install your own mail server, and use the configuration for that to run your webmail program. Not a chance Bravenet will let you do that...:)
