Lost all battery power

Can anyone help me with an electrical issue
I have a 1967 CJ750 outfit and I have lost all electrical power. I charged the battery and started the bike fine yesterday. I turned the ignition switch to the headlight setting and the bike stopped an all power went out.
Now when I turn on the ignition I get no power.
I checked the battery leads, all connections, main bus bar in the headlight and the fuses, all seem ok.
I get power from the battery to the starter but nowhere else.
Is there something I can check ?

Re: Lost all battery power

Hi Vince,

Sounds like a faulty contact in the ignition switch. Time to remove the headlight glass and check the feed to the terminals on the switch.

Good luck
Chris

Chris

Thanks for the advice, I have removed the headlight and checked the ignition terminal all seems ok, no loose connections.

Perhaps the switch is faulty and I may need to replace it. Do you know if there should be a 15amp fuse in the headlight shell.

Regards

Vince

Re: Lost all battery power

Hi Vince,

There are no fuses in original setup, I did add a 20amp fuse to my worrying for safety.
You should check with a volt meter that you have battery power up to the ignition switch on one wire. And that when you turn on switch the power goes out of the opposite side terminal. Then when cranking (if your bike has electric starter) another terminal should go live.
If you don't have power up to the main error on the ignition switch from battery, then check under the seat and the flat plate that has the rectifier and voltage regulator fitted. Could be a loss quote connection there.
The wiring circuit is quite simple one and typical problems can be the spade connectors.
