I was diagnosed with PBC 16 years ago - the only symptom I had was extreme fatigue - took a couple of years to be diagnosed. Interestingly, my cousin in the States was also diagnosed with PBC around the same time. I am wondering if there are others here in NSW with PBC.

One of my best friends from high school had a liver transplant by a live liver donor, her daughter, this past Thursday (25.2.10). My friend was diagnosed with PBC in December 2003. At the transplant she was in stage 4.

Just been diagnosed with PBC and getting my head around it. I'm 52 married with 3 kids. The doctor thinks I've probably had it for at least 5 years. I have always thought the symptoms were just a part of Menopause. All the very best to you all, stay positive.xxxxxoooooo

Hi.
My mum was diagnosed with PBC when i was 3. I am now 13. I guess you could say she has this **** bad. She is always tired, her feet go blue, she gets dizzy spells and more. Latley when she eats her food isnt going down... she says it feels as if it just sits below her throat. Her doctor says he is concered it has something to do with her liver. If anybody has had or still does have the same problem. Please tell me what is going on. She tries to act like she is superwoman but she isnt.

I was diagnosed with pbc 4 years ago and went through 2 years of hell before I found out what I had. Severe itching was my main symptom. since I found out and have been on several medications things have been good because I refuse to let this take over. I ran the great north run (13 miles) last year and also did lots of other runs. we raised over £1000 in sponsorship. I do alot of walking. In work I am doing well, again because i will not let this get in my way.(i work full time) I ran the Bupa Manchester run in May, race for life in July (came in the top 20 out of 1000 women) I am doing the great north run again in September and I am trying to get a place to do the London marathon next year. on the 12th August this year i am going to sign the consent form to put me on the Liver transplant list as my pbc is at the end stage. (this came as a shock) but again I will not let PBC be the boss, I am. Do not let this get the better of you, you can still have a really good life, I have. Even though this has effected my fertility after my transplant I will have a baby.

Weeeell...just getting my head around the idea that i a dealing with something serious here. Abnormally high enzyme levels picked up in my
blood when i had a test to check hormone levels. Dr assumed i was alcoholic.Had various tests since in search for problem. Finally, liver
biopsy diagnosed pbc. Taking Ursofalk 6months. Enzyme levels improved. My dads family from North of England, Durham. Fits population
density region of this disease. Interestingly my mothers sister (from N.Ireland) died from cirrhosis of liver at age 26 in 1956. I am very interested to read of others with pbc as i am feeling a bit stunned !
Need to know more. Interested in exploring improvements with diet.
Any ideas or experiences anyone. By the way I am 56 and an artist.
