What could this be?

I found this yesterday screening in Palo Pinto county. It is made of limestone and has some mineralization on it. It has an edge or bit to it. If anyone knows what this is or what it could be used for it would be greatly appeciated!!

This spiny lizard was caught trying to stay cool by digging into the fresh pile of screened dirt.

Re: What could this be?

Looks like a celt made of turetella limestone. Might have been used for hide dressing.

Re: What could this be?

Thanks for the info Michael!! This is the first celt I have found!

You did well to have Mike come out of his cave to render an ID..
If not used for working the hides, maybe the guy just liked fossils

Re: What could this be?

I live and artifact hunt in Palo Pinto County. You have found a piece of limestone. I too have found similar pieces that are naturally formed that look like a man made tool. But in all actuality they are just naturally formed pieces. Nothing man made about them.

Re: What could this be?

I agree SH!

I think this was worked by man because it has been ground and it has areas that show signs of use or wear. It also has a edge or bit like a dull knife. It was dug up in an indian camp and most of the rocks there are sandstone.
