Austin Surface Hunting Suggestions???

I'm going to Austin this week-end. Any suggestions on good places to surface hunt?????

Re: Austin Surface Hunting Suggestions???

The weekend is almost upon us.. Here's my best try..

To forestall the flurry of great info that usually accompanies these requests, let me state;
" it's illegal to surface hunt anywhere in Texas "

So as a naturalist out for a look at Texas wildlife.

Find where OLD Manor rd crosses Walnut Creek...Park on the small road.
Highish boots would be in order. Take an empty back pack. The fossils are great, including TEETH, from
Shark and Ray ...to Buffalo....to clam shells of unreasonable thickness. Petrified wood and flint.

In & out of the creek at the bridge...Wanna see a REAL indian camp ?( dug out )..SE corner from bridge.

Do some homework...Look for anyone else that may have done the same 11 years ago. ( see oldest icons on bottom of frt pg. )

Enjoy

Re: Austin Surface Hunting Suggestions???

Excellent advice..
Even BEFORE the explosive growth in Centex,,,,The Walnut creek section described was in the heart of the city years ago...probably a hike & bike trail with novelty stores along the way now..

Re: Austin Surface Hunting Suggestions???

Don't do fence hopping without permission. Will surely stick to the city limits & creeks. Thanks for all the feed back. RUN BAMBI RUN!!!!!

Re: Austin Surface Hunting Suggestions???

We can't get into any trouble walking around with a frisbee now can we????

Re: Austin Surface Hunting Suggestions???

If you didn't pickup enough fossils & Frisbees on your last adventure...here's a place in Round Rock with
absolutely guaranteed finds...

Fossil surfacers use similar fossilflickers

The show runs through 12/4 and is better than mud slinging
